Hi,

I'm Mike Segel.
My use of the "Gumby" alias has a long history within a certain segment of
Informix users and employees. (And shareholders). Some of these stories are
true, and some are totally made up. ;-)

As you know, the IIUG elections are upon us.

I was blackmailed in to running this year.
(Someone used a camera phone taking a picture of me taking blackmail
pictures of a certain IIUG board member, a certain clown and a goat. Why
they used a goat is beyond me, but hey! to each their own.)

So I am running. ;-) (Mike Segel)

I've been around the Informix products since '89 (Can you say Turbo? Wingz?
;-) And I've worked for Informix and started my second tour just prior to
the acquisition.

In between, I went to most of the Informix user group conferences, and
hosted the first C.D.I party in Chicago. (And yes, several of us made it to
Iggy's ...)

Also, in '97- ~'99 I made it a hobby of picking fun of Finnochio and Dexmier
over their inability to run the company. (Yes, Gary Lloyd did want to sue
me, and yes, I did give Dexmier a Chia Pet in response to Larry Ellison's
comments about Oracle's business growing faster that watching grass grow.
;-)[Like I said, some of the stories *were* true.]

I believe that in order to survive on the IIUG board, you need to keep
things in perspective, and occasionally have an irreverent sense of humor.

In addition, while during my second tour, I learned the inner workings of
IBM's SWG. This would be an invaluable tool in getting things through the
system.

So, what I bring to the table are:
a) a history with the product line(s)
b) a proven history of a sense of humor, albeit not always in good taste.
c) knowledge of the inner workings of IBM and how to get things done.

If you believe that these are good characteristics of a board member, then
vote for me.
(Mike Segel)

If you believe that I'm a scoundrel and deserve the pain and punishment of
serving on the board, then also vote for me.
(Mike Segel)

As I said, its a shameless plug, but seriously, your votes do count and
well, if you're not going to vote for me, at least vote.

Danke!
(Mike Segel) aka Ian Michael Gumby

I'd offer you my support but that would likely be equivalent to shooting
a torpedo at your candidacy. Perhaps I could endorse your opponent.

But what I'd really like to hear is what you bring to the table in terms
of ideas for keeping Informix from slowly sliding into oblivion.
